Lib Dem Policies Not Made Out of Ticky-tacky

November 13, 2007 12:32 PM

Liberal Democrats Michael Headley has responded to claims in this week's press that all political parties' '..politics and their principles are all made out of ticky-tacky and all look just the same.'

Michael said "Yes, there does appear to have become a consensus on so many issues between the Tories and Labour - fighting only over the small differences whilst agreeing on the big issues. But on so many of the big issues it is the Lib Dems that are offering that alternative."

"Labour and Tories are agreed on student tuition fees; they're agreed on new nuclear power stations; they're agreed on replacing Trident; they were agreed on the war in Iraq and they're agreed in their lack of a replacement for the discredited council tax. On all these issues it is the Lib Dems that offer a different view."

"But to me most scandalous of all is their joint complacency about the growing gap between rich and poor in this country. Inequality is now greater than under Margaret Thatcher. It is outrageous that "social mobility" isn't improving and people's future is far too much determined by their circumstances at birth. This clearly isn't true for every individual, but it needs to be the case that everyone has more power over determining their own future."

"If people want to see policies that aren't made out of ticky-tacky and all looking just the same, I recommend you look to the Liberal Democrats."
