Vann slams Cameron's tax con

Dr Vince Cable and Henry Vann discussing the economy

"Don't be fooled by the Conservative's tinkering" says Vann

David Cameron finally spoke about the economy long after Liberal Democrat parliamentary campaigner Henry Vann highlighted the insignificance of the Labour government's proposals.

The Conservative's weak proposals mean that someone saving £100 will only get an extra 40p a year and would do little to help hard-pressed families during the recession.

High street sales of up to 75 per cent or more make a mockery of a 2.5 percentage point reduction in VAT, which costs £12.5 billion. This money could be spent on a road to recovery instead of being wasted by the Labour government.

Henry Vann said:

"Cameron must come clean on where cuts would be made for his ineffective tinkering. How many fewer police officers will there be on the street and who will have a smaller pension?

"Meanwhile, we have a Labour government announcing it would create jobs without a plan to do so and cutting VAT by a miserly 2.5 per cent when high street sales are slashing prices by as much as 75 per cent.

"It seems clear that Liberal Democrats are the only party with a radical plan to help places like Bedford and Kempston out of the recession with a Green Policy costed not by cutting front-line services, but by reversing the great VAT con."
