Henry Vann spoke at a hustings meeting at the Ent Shed on Wednesday 28th April with the Conservative and Labour Party candidates for Bedford and Kempston. At the meeting he set out his priorities for Bedford and Kempston: Fair taxes; a fair start in life for children and young people through greater investment in local education; jobs growth locally including investment in East-West rail; and political reform to make politics fairer.

After the public meeting, Henry re-iterated the key pledges for Bedford and Kempston, saying:

"The Liberal Democrat Manifesto is the only manifesto with costings, and we have committed to investing £16.6 million into education to give every child a fair start in life.

"In addition, the vast majority of residents in Bedford and Kempston will benefit from our pledge for fair-taxes. We will rebalance the tax system - raising the personal allowance to £10,000 so that those on low and middle incomes get a £700 tax cut and lifting thousands of the poorest earners in Bedford and Kempston out of paying tax altogether.

"We are also committed to green investment and will create jobs in Bedford and Kempston with a green initiative and rail focus to complete the Western link - this will be a real economic boon to our towns.

"Finally, I have made a personal contract with the people of Bedford and Kempston, and the Liberal Democrats will also follow through on our long-term commitment to a fair voting system and political reform."

Henry added: "Thanks to Kristy and the team with the Kings Arms Church for organising such a well attended event - with standing room only at the back."
