Residents in Turvey can look forward to quieter roads after the Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, acted to change road signage which directed thousands of cars and lorries through the village every year unnecessarily.

Signage on the A428, including the sign located on the junction of the A428 and A422, directed drivers travelling from Bedford or Bromham, who want to travel north on the M1, along the A428 and through Turvey. This has now been covered over and all drivers heading to the M1 will now be signposted down the A422 to junction 14 of the M1.

The Council is also working to have in car sat-nav systems changed to direct drivers along the more suitable route via the A422.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "Residents have raised concerns about the fact that signage sent traffic for the M1 northbound through Turvey unnecessarily, when there is a quicker and more appropriate route available.'

"We have acted to change the signs, which now direct vehicles to the motorway by a much more suitable route for cars and lorries. This is a common sense change, and we are now working to have satellite navigation routes changed in the same way for the benefit of the community in Turvey and for drivers."
