Michael Headley Elected Bedford Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate

October 1, 2003 10:34 AM

Michael Headley - Bedford Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Putnoe Borough CouncillorBedford Liberal Democrats elected Michael Headley by an overwhelming majority last week to be their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.

Michael contested the 2001 general election, increasing the Lib Dem vote at the expense of both the Tories and Labour. He was also agent in last year's Mayoral election where the Liberal Democrats out-polled both Labour and Conservative candidates.

Michael said:

"I'm very pleased to have been chosen by local party members to be their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate. It is particularly thrilling to have done this in the week that we won the Brent East by-election from Labour. We only need a much smaller swing than that to win here. Former Labour and former Conservative voters are disillusioned and are turning to the Liberal Democrats in increasing numbers."

"I am looking forward to speaking to many, many local people in the next few years. I want to show them that if they want a party that cares about the Environment; wants to free up teachers and doctors from excessive government interference; and will deliver free personal care for the elderly and remove tuition fees, then they should turn to us."
