UK in the slow lane of climate action

Responding to the Climate Change Committee's progress report published this morning, Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat spokesperson on climate change Mark Fitzpatrick said "The Tories must listen to this hard-hitting report- it should be a wake up call. Ten years on from the world leading Climate Change Act that had all party support, the Conservatives are putting Britain in the slow lane of climate action. By stopping new technologies like tidal lagoons and by preventing the roll out of proven technologies like onshore wind and solar, the Conservatives are jeopardising Britain's future ability to reduce climate changing pollution."

Mark added "Britain's climate progress benefitted hugely from Liberal Democrats' action in Government. The backward climate steps of the last three years are fast becoming a Tory-led environmental scandal. Climate change is affecting us all: farmers in Bedfordshire are suffering, more frequent extreme weather events costs Bedford Borough Council more to maintain the roads and affect residents as they try to get to work, the shops or school. That's is why action is needed by the government."
