Local Organisations Say Thank You During Volunteers Week - A Round-Up

June 8, 2020 12:36 PM

National Volunteers Week Logo (The National Council for Voluntary Organisations - https://volunteersweek.org/)Volunteers Week concluded yesterday, Sunday 7th June, and across the week groups and organisations in Bedford Borough gave well deserved recognition to local volunteers and shined a light on their fantastic efforts in our communities.

Mayor Dave Hodgson took the opportunity to say a resounding thank you to volunteers in his latest column in the Bedford Independent, which you can read here: https://www.bedfordindependent.co.uk/thanking-our-volunteers/

Mayor Dave also recorded a video message of thanks to volunteers, and you can watch it on Bedford Borough Council's YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/xXz6HirQG-A

Bedford Hospital has been publishing special messages of thanks to some of the many volunteers who contribute so much to the running of the hospital, including those involved in the hospital radio service, chaplaincy volunteers, midwifery volunteers and others. You can catch up with those stories on Bedford Hospital's Twitter page, here, or Facebook page, here.

Bedfordshire Police has also been saying thank you, in particular to its Special Constables. Specials work from police stations across the county, help with all aspects of policing and work alongside officers to protect people and fight crime. You can find out more about what they do on the Beds Police website at https://www.bedfordshire.police.uk/apply/Recruitment-and-volunteering/Special-Constabulary/Special-constables

Local Charities are largely powered by hard-working, dedicated volunteers, and they've been hailing their tremendous efforts through the week, for example Bedford Daycare Hospice in this message.

Two Bedford Borough voluntary organisations were awarded the prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, in an announcement made during Volunteers Week. The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service recognises outstanding work by volunteer groups to benefit their local communities and this year's recipients include Autism Bedfordshire and Sharnbrook Amateur Theatre Trust. You can read more about their success here. Congratulations to both organisations and their brilliant volunteers!

Finally, Bedford Borough's cultural venues are powered in no small part by volunteers. Through the week The Higgins Bedford highlighted the tremendous efforts of its many volunteers, such as via this post on Twitter which uses a range of facts and figures to highlight the sheer scale of the work they do.
