Join the Big Garden Birdwatch and Discover the Wildlife on your Doorstep!

Councillor Sarah Gallagher with the RSPB Birdwatch pack ()This weekend, 29 - 31st January is the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch - the world's largest wildlife survey - and Eastcotts Liberal Democrat Cllr Sarah Gallagher is recommending taking part.

Taking part simply involves spending an hour counting the birds you see in your garden or from your balcony, then telling the RSPB what you saw.

This is obviously a safe activity you can do from your own home. The only difference this year is that everything you need to take part is available online, where you can also submit the results of your counting. You do not need a paper pack like the one Cllr Gallagher is holding in this picture taken during a previous Big Garden Birdwatch.

You can find out all you need to know on the RSPB's website at rspb.org.uk/birdwatch, where you will also find free resources such as printable bird ID sheets to help you, or posters you can display to show you're taking part.

Cllr Sarah Gallagher, who is taking part again herself this year, said: "The Big Garden Birdwatch is a fun, free way to help open your eyes to the variety of wildlife on your doorstep. By spending just an hour observing the comings and goings in your garden or from a balcony you can help us all understand what is happening with local, garden wildlife.

"It's great to have something safe and enjoyable to do at home at this time, too. It's something you can arrange to take part in with friends and family and compare notes, all from the comfort of your own homes."
