Lib Dems launch petition for fair funding for the police

Jas Parmar"Pay your bill, Home Secretary"

Jas Parmar, Liberal Democrat candidate for Bedfordshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, has launched a campaign to overturn the continued underfunding of Bedfordshire's Police Force.

Since 2016/17, under the Conservatives, local residents have seen a 40% increase in their local police council tax bills.

Jas Parmar has launched a petition to take to Government demanding that the continued funding of Bedfordshire as a rural police force, despite large urban areas and a growing airport, be sorted out once and for all, rather than local taxpayers footing the bill for decades of underfunding.

"Despite repeated promises Bedfordshire Police remains unfairly funded. The issues of terrorism, burglaries, county lines and gun, knife and drug crimes are no different to the ones faced in cities, yet Bedfordshire Police remains funded as a rural force.

"The Government needs to pay its bills and back our brave police officers, and local residents. And as a victim of an attempted armed robbery, and a former Met police officer, I am urging people to sign my petition to Government."

Liberal Democrat Police and Crime Panel Member, Councillor Hilde Hendrickx, added:

"Whilst we welcome any extra funding for front line policing, we strongly believe it should come from national government. It shouldn't come from a further large increase in the police element of council tax."
