May 29, 2021 7:54 AM

Cllr Tim HillFollowing another fire on the site of the former brickworks in Stewartby, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Elstow and Stewartby Ward Tim Hill has called for urgent action by the site owners to improve security.

Cllr Hill was interviewed live at the site for BBC Three Counties Radio on Friday, and he explained how fires on the site have become a repeated occurence, and that there is real concern among residents about safety. He called on the site owners and the company which plans to develop the site for housing to take action now, before more serious consequences occur.

You can listen to his interview, in which Cllr Hill also talks about the history of Stewartby village, from 2:05:30 here on BBC Sounds

Cllr Hill has also advised residents to report anything suspicious that they witness at the site to the police. Commenting on Facebook here, he said: "Over the past few months, there have been several fires on the old brickworks site in Stewartby. This has to be stopped and the perpetrators caught and prosecuted.

I have called on the site owners to set up better 24/7, on site security, but if any residents see anything at all, please, please, please report it immediately to 101 or on-line at: https://www.bedfordshire.police.uk/report/Report#df8341ab
Someone will be seriously injured soon or even worse, die from their injuries, or a squatter is killed. This needs to stop.
Please let me know when you have reported something suspicious. Please don't report it to me without first reporting it to the police."
