Henry Vann, parliamentary campaigner, has highlighted the work of sportpeople in Bedford and Kempston.

Recently published figures highlighted by the Liberal Democrats show that Bedford Borough has more sports halls than any other local authority in the East of England.

Bedford Borough has 50 sports halls compared with an average of 22 per local authority in our region.

Henry Vann, parliamentary campaigner for Bedford and Kempston highlighted the figures saying: "Sport plays a central role in the life of Bedford and Kempston, and these figures show the excellent array of services we have available.

"Only a few weeks ago I attended the Sport Bedford awards where so many promising sportspeople, young and old, were rewarded for their hard work.

"All those nominated - and there were more sportspeople there than ever before - proved that they had what it takes to perform at the top of their game, and it was inspiring to hear former gold paralympic athlete Danny Crates.

"Having a large number of accessible facilities is also crucial, and the work put in by those behind the scenes - the administrators, groundspeople and coaches - is absolutely indispensible."
