Henry Vann, Bedford and Kempston Parliamentary Candidate for the Liberal Democrats has criticised the budget for failing to take the poorest people out of income tax. He said:

"The Liberal Democrats are offering real fairness by making sure that nobody pays tax on the first £10,000 which they earn."

"Liberal Democrats want to reform the tax system so that it is fairer to all and the move would ensure that thousands of people in Bedford and Kempston paid no tax at all."

Henry added: "Labour's budget is a dishonest attempt to pull the wool over people's eyes. They have avoided the serious questions on spending and offered no fairness.

"Labour's budget is a direct challenge to fairness; by freezing the tax bands and the personal allowance, we will all see a real increase in our income tax. Labour are offering us a future unfair for all."
