A community scheme to improve the area around Eastcotts Road in Bedford got underway this weekend with a litter pick of the Fenlake Meadow car park.

A team of 17 volunteers arrived on site on Saturday morning and in just two hours cleared some of the following:

  • 55 bags of litter
  • 2 rolls of carpet
  • 3 wheel trims
  • 2 road cones
  • Broken rusty scooter
  • Kids scooter
  • Wheelbarrow wheel
  • Broken garden chair
  • Flattened shopping trolley

The 'Pride in Bedford'' litter pick is part of a wider scheme, supported by Bedford Borough Council, which will improve the area around Eastcotts Road. New trees will be planted and other improvements are expected to made to the land alongside the road in the coming months.

Councillor Sarah-Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: "This litter pick, with the help of local residents, saw a significant amount of rubbish removed from the Fenlake Meadow car park. This is part of a wider scheme to improve the area near Eastcotts Roadand it is great news that local residents are getting involved to improve the area they live in."

Anyone wishing to help out with the project can contact the Council's Pride in Bedford team, by calling 01234 267422 or by emailing prideinbedford@bedford.gov.uk
