Superb Ofsted result for Bedford Borough Lower and Primary Schools

Bedford Borough Lower and Primary schools come out a superb 11th out of 150 areas in a new Ofsted national league table - that's better than any other area in the East of England.

This means that 85% of pupils attend a good or outstanding school. That is better than neighbouring areas like Central Beds (83%), Cambridgeshire (66%) and Milton Keynes (67%).

Lib Dem Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "The fact that you are more likely to be able to send your child to a good or outstanding lower or primary school in Bedford Borough than almost anywhere else in the country is a ringing endorsement of the efforts of pupils, families and teachers to drive up standards, working in partnership with the Council. We obviously aspire to 100%, and will continue working alongside all schools in the task of giving all children the best possible opportunity to fulfil their potential."

In addition there is good news for secondary level schools too as the figures show that the proportion of pupils at good or outstanding secondary level schools is also higher in Bedford Borough than the national average.

There is not long until the deadline for applications to a 'Starting School' place. If you are a parent or carer of a child born between 01/09/08- 31/09/09 then you need to apply for a school place before 15 January 2013. To do this online please click here.
