Councillor says- Sign up for faster broadband in your village now!
Councillor Sarah Holland, Liberal Democrat Eastcotts Ward, is calling on all residents in Bedfordshire villages to sign up to help get faster broadband in their area. "BT are reactive, depending on how big a demand there is for a service in a particular area. The more people shout up about broadband in our villages the more chance we have of getting it." She said after a recent meeting with BT officials.
Like many rural areas Bedfordshire villages are lucky if they can get ½ megabyte connection compared to at least 8 meg in towns and cities. BT are rolling out super-fast broadband across the country but this still leaves many villages lagging behind on their connection.
Cllr Holland added, "I have been campaigning for some time now for better broadband provision across Shortstown. Some households have access to cable but others are still having to rely in very slow access. I have now had a number of conversations with BT and as part of BT's survey residents need people to go to: http://www.erebusonline.org.uk to register their interest in having faster broadband.
"The more people there are that register the better the chance that not only Shortstown but also other villages in Bedfordshire can get faster broadband."
