Bedford Borough Council has been awarded £3.1 million thanks to Mayor Dave Hodgson and the Lib Dems

Bedford Borough Council has been awarded £3.1 million by the government because of our continuing weekly bin collections, due to the work of Mayor Dave and the Lib Dem councillors.

Lib Dem Cllr for Elstow Tim Hill said "We have fought hard to protect weekly collections over a number of years, going back to the days when the former Tory-run County Council tried to impose fortnightly collections on Bedford Borough households and in the face of extraordinary financial pressures it is great to receive this support".

Lib Dem Mayor Dave Hodgson added: "We are now going to be able to do more to improve the front line bin collection service, reduce the impact on the environment and save money through new vehicles and the latest technology. We're working with residents to boost recycling, not forcing unwanted changes upon them, and I'm delighted that we have secured this new funding to help support our continuation of that approach."

The Lib Dems are committed to continuing the weekly collections and reducing waste. Now that the 12 days of Christmas are nearly over the Council is running a service to recycle your Christmas tree. For more information on this please click here.
