Network rail stump up cash for damaged verges
Network Rail has been made to pay for damage it caused to local grass verges in Stewartby after a local Councillor intervened. Councillor Tim Hill, Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor for Stewartby, got on to the case and after the Council's insurance company got involved Network rail agreed to pay for the damages. The Council has now installed a lay-by so that workers can park in future without causing damage to the verges adjacent to the railway line running through the village.
Cllr Hill commented, "Whilst I couldn't believe the mess the verges had been left in last summer I am happy to see that everyone has been able to work together to find a solution to this problem."
Cllr Hill spoke to Council Officers and Network Rail after rail workers had parked their cars on the grass verges next to the railway bridge in Stewartby Way, Stewartby. After several days the verges began to deteriorate with ruts being left by the tyres of the vans. The Council then made a claim to Network Rail and on payout decided that the best way to use the money was to install a lay-by so future work in the area by Network Rail wouldn't leave such a damaging trail.
Cllr Hill added, "This just shows that when agencies work together things can be resolved quickly."
