Residents Helped to Save Energy and Cut Costs thanks to Liberal Democrat 'Energy Monitor' Library Loans Initiative
Local residents are now able to borrow 'energy monitors' for free from the library to help them save energy and cut household bills, thanks to a Liberal Democrat initiative launched by Mayor Dave Hodgson. The idea was proposed by Dave Hodgson at a meeting of the Borough Council's Sustainability Committee before his election as Mayor. He launched the scheme at Bedford Central Library in October, and early indications are that the scheme is proving popular.
Once clipped to a household energy supply, they enable users to see how much electricity is being used in the household - and how much it is costing.
Commenting, Mayor of Bedford Borough Dave Hodgson said: "I am delighted that this scheme has been popular so far, and hope that the numbers of people borrowing the monitors grows further. Energy monitors can be expensive to buy but can be borrowed by library members at no cost. The purpose of the monitors is to give people a greater understanding of their energy consumption, helping them to find ways of reducing it and save money too. These monitors really are an excellent way to help protect the environment and keep energy bills down."
