In the third and final look back at key events of 2011 we look at the nail-biting events of August when many teenagers await the envelope that will tell them how successful they've been in their GCSEs and 'A' Levels. This year their hard work paid off and we'd like to congratulate them on their success.

This years education results were a cause for celebration in many households across the Borough. The GCSE results were the best ever for Bedford Borough and the results at 'A' level meant some schools got record results.

Of particular note was Hastingsbury Upper where an impressive 89% of pupils received 3 or more 'A' Level A* - E grades.

Cllr David Sawyer, Portfolio Holder for Education, said in a letter to the Bedfordshire on Sunday, The Borough Council has an ongoing commitment to working in partnership with its schools to increase attainment, and we will continue to support increasing standards for our children and young people.
