Review of 2011: Some of the Liberal Democrat successes of 2011 in Bedford Borough

28 Dec 2011

Yes, it's that time of year, between Christmas and the New Year, when everybody looks back over the year and mulls over the events. So we thought we'd do exactly that over the next few days and look back at some of the highs of 2011. We hope you enjoy.

Early in the year there was a clear indication thatBedfordwas going to be a little bit different from many other parts of the country. It began with the Budget.

Bedford Borough Council was one of the first Councils to not only begin its budget process, back in the Autumn of 2010, but it also engaged with local residents and community groups through a lengthy consultation process.

So, at the beginning of 2011, on February 2nd, the Full Council came together and with all the political groups on the Council supporting the Mayor's budget they voted for a Council Tax cut.

According to a national independent survey Bedford Borough Council's budget cut was the biggest in the country.

Not only was there a cut but no libraries were shut, no school crossing patrols were stopped and rural bus services were improved not finished. AndBedfordstill has all its lights on.
