Senior Liberal Democrats are calling for powers to be devolved from Brussels to Britain- Evening Standard

Sir Menzies told the Standard: "Senior medical practitioners in hospitals will tell you that the working time directive in many cases stands in the way of proper training of junior doctors.

"No one wants young doctors to work ridiculous hours, not least because of safety issues involved.

"But the application of the principle behind the working time directive should surely rest with the country where they work. There's a clear indication in the training of young doctors where rigid application of a directive can be against the public interest."
