STRING OF SPEED LIMITS TO BE CUT AS MAYOR ANNOUNCES REVIEW RESULTS
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, has announced the results of his speed limit review across Bedford Borough.
The Mayor asked for nominations for locations where residents are concerned about speeding traffic and where road safety could be improved by a reduced speed limit. Sites put forward have been reviewed over six months, during which the Council has assessed traffic data and conducted research into factors such as the number of accidents at each location.
Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "I want to get the message across that speeding is not acceptable on our roads, and this review is resulting in real action to cut speeds on local roads around the Borough.
"Lower speed limits will be introduced on every road where parish councils or local councillors have requested a speed limit reduction. In addition we will implement traffic safety measures and for the first time average speed cameras will be introduced to enforce safer driving across the Borough.
"The new wireless average speed cameras will be moved around across the Borough and since they are very discreet they are an extremely effective deterrent. Those who endanger other road users and pedestrians in our communities by speeding over local roads should be aware that they can and will be caught."
