Visiting One of Bedford's Hidden Giants!

18 Mar 2011

When I talk to people about the major firms located here in Bedford Borough, I am always struck by the fact that the presence of Fujifilm UK's Head Office does not seem to be widely known. They actually have 14 buildings at the St Martin's Way Business Park alone! It's another example of the major businesses we host here in Bedford which would be the envy of any town in the country. As part of the 'Open for Business' programme I launched after becoming Mayor I visited Fujifilm UK last week to talk to senior management figures about their business and how the Council can support them to continue to thrive here in Bedford Borough.

As with so many of the firms in the Borough I have had the pleasure of visiting to boost engagement from the Council with business, it was fascinating to learn about the range of goods and services Fujifilm UK offers. The different types of photographic printing they can do is remarkable, and I was shown 3D movie posters, for example, amongst other impressive offerings!

It was a great pleasure to meet Fujifilm UK's Managing Director Mr Matsushita and his colleagues, and I am grateful to them for their welcome and their warm attitude to myself and other representatives of the Council in attendance. I know that the Japanese members of staff here in Bedford will be thinking of home at this extremely difficult time, and I have written to the company to offer my sympathies and very best wishes.
