Winning the Battle Against Potholes
Reported number of potholes halved in one year.
At this time of year in particular, the battle is on to deal with the pot holes caused by the freezing weather. The good news is that thanks to action taken by Lib Dem Mayor Dave Hodgson, the Council is doing better than ever at winning this battle.
There is a two-pronged attack that has achieved this success. Mayor Dave has included £5m a year in the budget to properly maintain our roads, with full and thorough resurfacing work. This means that there are less and less of the old and poor road surfaces that were left by the old Tory-controlled County Council.
Secondly, when potholes are found, more and more of them are tackled by the hit squad with a larger permanent and longer lasting repair. There is still sometimes the need to do a quick temporary repair to fix an immediate danger, but the permanent repairs are much more common now.
Last year saw a 58% reduction in pothole complaints, after the introduction of the Pot Hole Hit Squad by Mayor Dave. 2,622 potholes were reported in 2011; in 2012 this had dropped to 1,100. There is still work to be done and if you see a pothole, please don't hesitate to ring 01234 718003 to get it fixed.
