100 Days of Inaction
100 days have passed since the Tories became the largest group on the borough council taking 24 out of the 54 borough council seats. Lib Dem councillor Christine McHugh is asking "They promised action and all we've had is dither - why?"
"Before the election the Tories were full of talk about the strong leadership they would provide if elected. Now here we are 100 days on and it seems that was all it was, talk. They have persistently dithered and delayed and failed to come up with one serious proposal."
"If they have no ideas they could at least support good ideas from other people that would benefit the borough, but they haven't even been able to do that. They even rejected our recent proposal for a freeze on council tax. It's a bit like listening to General De Gaulle, "Non, non, non"."
The Lib Dem group has put forward a number of written proposals including unlocking over £1 million pounds of the Council's reserves and setting that to work for the Borough through the establishment of a number of graffiti busting initiatives, crime fighting through an increase in CCTV cameras, lobbying of the government on aspects of hedge nuisance.
Cllr McHugh said, "Time and again the Tories have refused to support these proposals, whilst also failing to come up with any serious alternatives themselves."
