Dave with the sculpture by Martignetti

It's hard to believe that today saw just the first Bedford Italian Festival, but that's the case.

I went with friends to the festival to see what was on offer by way of Italian food and products and to watch the unveiling ceremony of a sculpture. I can report that the tiramisu was delicious!

The sculpture unveiled is a work produced and donated by Professore Giuseppe Martignetti, from Montefalcione, Avellino, a village in the south of Italy from which many people emigrated to come to Bedford. The sculpture is intended to act as a reminder of sacrifice & struggle, ambition and achievement.

I think it is a splendid piece to grace the site on the north-west of the town bridge and I hope that Bedford will see many more Italian festivals to celebrate the contribution that Italians have made to Bedford.
