20TH ANNIVERSARY FOR APPLE DAY AT BROMHAM MILL

13 Oct 2010

The annual celebration of apples returns to Bromham Mill & Gallery this Sunday, 17th October!

Now in its 20th year, National Apple Day is a wonderful day out for the entire family and invites everyone to taste, eat, drink and buy locally produced apples. Visitors can also get involved with apple bobbing, Morris dancing, apple peeling competition, sheep dog demonstration, children's art workshop and the always popular ferret racing.

Apple Day started in 1990 and was organised by Common Ground, a group that has helped nationally to revive an interest in fruit growing. Bromham Mill is an excellent venue for the celebration as many village mills traditionally had apple orchards.

Visitors can also get involved with the huge Local Food Fair where you can try and buy apples you can't find in supermarkets, plus Bedfordshire Clangers, toffee apples, hog roast, a range of ciders, perry and apple juices, flour, bread, cakes, jams, honey and beer.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "National Apple Day at Bromham Mill is always an immensely popular event and I am sure that will be the case again this year. It is an excellent day out for the family with a wide range of enjoyable activities on offer. Last year's Apple Day was the first event I attended as Mayor and I am looking forward to spending more time there on Sunday."
