A Brand New Primary School for Shortstown - Children Mark the Start of Building Work

Last week saw an informal ceremony take place to mark the 'turning of the first sod' on the site of the new Shortstown Primary School, which will be open for the Autumn Term next year, in September 2013. The £6.45 million new school will replace the existing Shortstown Lower School, and will provide excellent facilities for the children of the growing Shortstown community. The new school will be a two form entry primary, in contrast to the current one form entry at Shortstown Lower School.

It was great to see children from Shortstown Lower school put the first spade in the ground themselves on the site, which of course will have the Cardington Sheds as a spectacular backdrop. They were accompanied by staff including Head Teacher Denise Cottam, and the Chair of Governors was present too. Education Portfolio Holder Cllr David Sawyer was also on hand, as was Shortstown Ward Councillor Sarah-Jayne Holland.

I look forward to seeing the progress of the building work over the months to come as the new school takes shape in advance of its opening next September. It's an exciting project for the current and future children of Shortstown, and for the whole community.
