A Bumper Year at The Higgins Bedford

25 Jan 2017

In 2016 The Higgins Bedford welcomed over 42,500 visitors, representing a 24% increase on the previous year and making it the museum's busiest calendar year ever.

Popular exhibitions during 2016 included Bedford's War Machines, which marked the centenary of the Battle of the Somme; The Harpur Trust 450th Anniversary Art Competition Exhibition which displayed artworks by school children from across Bedford Borough; and Picasso and the Masters of Print which continues until April.

The museum also worked closely with local community organisations to plan and deliver events and displays which increasingly reflected the rich diversity of Bedford's culture and heritage.

Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Sarah-Jayne Holland said 'The Higgins Bedford has celebrated a fantastic calendar of events in the last year and the hard work of staff and volunteers is reflected in their record visitor numbers for 2016.'

'The year to come promises more exciting events and exhibitions and I would like to encourage all local residents to pay a visit to The Higgins Bedford and support this great asset to our community.'
