Following persistent rain over the last 24 hours, the Environment Agency have issued a flood warning for the River Til at Yelden, Upper Dean and Lower Dean and flood alerts for the River Kym at Riseley and the Great Ouse through Milton Keynes, Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire.

A flood warning means that flooding is expected, while a flood alert means that flooding is possible. Bedford Borough Council is monitoring river levels and working alongside local flood groups and the emergency services in areas affected, and are asking everyone to avoid passing through floodwater.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said "We've seen persistent rain falling on already water logged ground and this has led to some localised flooding. We're advising everyone to continue to stay home as much as possible but if you have to head out to make sure you stay safe and avoid walking or driving through flood water, which could deeper than it appears and include hidden hazards."
