One of the things I enjoy about being a councillor is the chance it gives me to meet people from all walks of life. As candidate for Mayor this gives me a great reason to meet even more people than usual. Today I popped into the monthly Coffee Morning at Maydenbury House in Brickhill for a nice cup of tea and chatted with many of the residents.

Many Bedfordians will have seen Maydenbury House, situated at the junction of Kimbolton Road and Brickhill Drive. It is an attractive and very well maintained property, set in lovely gardens. Maydenbury is run by Bedford Citizens' Housing Association (BCHA) http://www.bchal.org/, formed in 1957 for the purpose of "housing elderly people of limited means". They now directly own 125 units of accommodation as well as managing other units on behalf of other local charities. They provide a wide variety of services: residential and respite care at Bedford Charter House in Kimbolton Road, Bedford, sheltered housing at Maydenbury House, Bedesmans House and properties in Lansdowne and Kimbolton Road; non-sheltered housing in properties in Ashburnham Road, Bromham Road, Conduit Road, Chaucer Road, Hurst Grove, Kimbolton Road, Bedford and Ray's Close, Bromham. For more details, contact the BCHA's Housing Manager, Bedford Charter House, 1A Kimbolton Road, Bedford MK40 2PU, tel: Bedford 321400, email:housingandmaintenancemanager@bchal.org

If you are thinking about applying for a Housing Association Tenancy, application forms for the Joint Housing Register are available from Beds Pilgrims Housing Association (BPHA) http://www.bpha.org.uk/ or the Council's Housing Advice Service http://www.bedford.gov.uk/housing/housing_advice.aspx at the Town Hall. Applications can be made direct to any of the other Housing Associations operating in the Borough. Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (BPHA) is the main provider of rented housing in the Borough and deals with all nominations to other Housing Associations on behalf of the Council through the Bedford Borough Joint Housing Register.
