A Sporting and Cultural Feast in Bedford Borough

There's always a lot going on in and around Bedford at the weekend, but as Friday night approaches this weekend deserves special attention. Tonight, for example, sees the Bedford Blues take on London Welsh in the First Leg of the Championship Play-Off semi final. The Blues have had another fantastic season, and are set to play in front of a big crowd tonight at Goldington Road. There's always a tremendous, family atmosphere at Goldington Road, and no doubt the Blues will receive passionate, well-deserved backing as they go about trying to establish a lead to take into the second leg. Fingers crossed!
Tomorrow sees a couple of really interesting, innovative and creative events in Bedford town centre. The public presentation of the truly remarkable 'Lace in Place' project by locally-based artist Arabel Rosillo de Blas takes place between 2 and 4pm. This project, commissioned by Bedford Creative Arts, sees the exterior of the unoccupied 1 St Paul's Square building covered in a unique lace sculpture. For more information about the event and the project, see the BCA's website.
Also taking place tomorrow is what promises to be a fascinating first for Bedford - a 'pop-up museum' called The Thing About Me... The event runs from 11am - 4pm, on the lawn in front The Higgins Bedford, and is taking place to celebrate the new name and brand of the art gallery and museum. The concept is described on The Higgins' news blog as follows: 'The idea of The Thing About Me is that you bring along an thing that means something to you. Maybe it is something that you've had on your desk or shelf for more years then you can remember, a gift from a loved one or a childhood toy. It doesn't matter what it is, just as long as it is something you love.' I think it sounds like it'll be a really interesting and enjoyable event, and it's one that will only work if people take part, so why not pick up something that means something to you and bring it along?
There is a wide range of other events taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend too including, looking a little further ahead to Bank Holiday Monday itself, the Castle Quarter medieval festival.
Enjoy the weekend, whatever you have planned (and whatever the weather!).
