A Year as Mayor

24 Oct 2010

This week marked a year in office after my election as Mayor following the sad death of Frank Branston. It really is a huge honour to serve as Mayor of Bedford Borough. I have sought to seize the opportunity and through our commitment to protecting services and cutting out waste, we've made huge strides in turning around the old County Council's years of high taxes and poor services.

The total focus on that task has been the predominant feature of a year as Mayor for me, while on a personal level I have enjoyed learning more and more about our Borough. In spite of the fact that I moved to Bedford at the age of 9 and have lived in various urban and rural parts of the Borough, by getting out and about to meet residents and to visit businesses and community groups I find I can still learn new things about what a vibrant place we live in, and how much we have to be proud of.
