A600 Re-routing Battle

10 Aug 2002

Developers have recently submitted an application to build over 1,000 homes on the former RAF Cardington site in Shortstown. Plans include a community centre, school, supermarket and pub.

Christine McHugh, Borough Councillor for Shortstown gave the application a cautious welcome but has a couple of major reservations. She said:

"The government and Local Plan require a large number of houses to be built in our area and local people generally accept the principle of housing development on this site. We look forward to Shortstown gaining some much-needed local facilities through the development."

"However, the proposed rerouting of the A600 - which will become even busier - though the middle of the development is sheer madness! Many residents have already signed the petition I have organised to demand that the A600 be re-routed around the new development, to show the developers the strength of feeling against their proposed route."
