The latest advice and guidance on coronavirus is available via the NHS at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Meanwhile Mayor Dave Hodgson, in his latest email, has shared a number of helpful links and sources of information and guidance, while giving reassurance that Bedford Borough Council has plans in place to ensure that essential services are maintained.

Here's Mayor Dave's message:

The developing situation regarding coronavirus is naturally at the forefront of everyone's thoughts at the moment, and you should be aware that the Council is implementing plans to maintain essential services and help people stay safe.

In respect of information about the virus and advice about what to do, please be aware that a lot of false information is circulating. So the safest thing to do is rely on information from the NHS and local and national government bodies. I want to share some useful resources and guidance available from the NHS:

NHS main coronavirus page
NHS video answering common questions on coronavirus

In addition to that helpful NHS advice, there is some more in depth guidance and even downloadable resources such as posters - which may be helpful for workplaces or those involved with volunteer organisations, community groups etc. - available via Public Health England's coronavirus hub

It's absolutely vital that people do not believe and do not spread disinformation on this critical issue. If you have heard some advice or a rumour and you cannot find it addressed via the NHS, you may find the Full Fact pages on coronavirus helpful.

The Council has contingencies in place and is implementing processes to ensure all essential services are maintained. Where any changes to services take place, the latest information will be available at the Council's website at www.Bedford.gov.uk and via the Council's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Those who are able to check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours or friends can help to ensure they have plans to help them if those neighbours or friends need to self-isolate, for example with the shopping.

Finally, I want to pay tribute to the incredibly responsible and community-spirited actions and the attitude of people across the borough on this matter so far, and to thank all staff in our emergency and health and social care services who help keep us all safe.

Best wishes

Dave
