Afternoon Tea Week

This week is Afternoon Tea Week, did you know afternoon tea was 'invented' by the Duchess of Bedford.

Anna Maria, Duchess of Bedford, is credited with inventing the English custom of afternoon tea around 1840. At the time it was usual for people to take only two main meals a day, breakfast, and dinner at around 8 o'clock in the evening. The solution for the Duchess was a pot a tea and a light snack, taken privately in her boudoir during the afternoon.

Explore Bedford have produced a list of where you can partake of Afternoon Tea at https://www.explorebedford.co.uk/2022/08/04/its-afternoon-tea-week-8-14-august-2022/ and the John Bunyan Boat is holding an Afternoon Tea cruise on Wednesday 17th August, you can find out more at https://www.thebedfordguide.co.uk/listing/afternoon-tea-cruises-the-john-bunyan-community-boat/.
