Ambitious for Bedford Borough: Mayor Dave announces key priorities

Mayor Dave Hodgson has launched the Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats' 2023 Manifesto, outlining the key priorities to be ambitious for Bedford Borough:

• We will Support People
• We will protect the Environment and tackle Climate Change
• We will ensure there is Opportunity for All

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats will do this by standing up for Bedford Borough and working hard for residents all year round.

The Manifesto highlights some of the many successes the Liberal Democrats have had whilst running the Council, including creating and protecting over 8,000 new jobs, reducing the Council's carbon emissions by over 62% and supporting the poorest by offering a 100% Council Tax Reduction Scheme. The document also outlines future plans to reduce debt levels further from the £90 million left by the Conservative County Council, to introduce a new food waste service and continue to tackle homelessness.

Mayor Dave said "As your Mayor, I will always do what is best for Bedford Borough and make sure that council taxpayers' money is well spent. We have proved year on year, through some very difficult times, that we can run the Council finances responsibly.

"The Liberal Democrat Team will work to keep protecting and supporting people, especially the most vulnerable in our Borough.

"We will continue to tackle climate change and protect our local environment by investing in sustainable technology and reducing carbon emissions to achieve a Net Zero Carbon Council by 2030.

"We will ensure that the Borough is a hive of opportunity for learning, skills development and business growth. We will respect and celebrate our many different cultures and traditions.

"We will stand up for Bedford in the face of government cuts to transport and health services. We will lobby government to ensure that our current and future communities have the necessary infrastructure to allow them to thrive.

"We will do all this by working hard for every resident in the Borough all year round."
