The stage is also literally set in Harpur Square, with free live music on the 'BedRocks' stage hosted by the Oxjam Bedford team having kicked off yesterday afternoon. Shakespeare in the Square followed yesterday evening, with No Loss Productions' performance of Much Ado About Nothing.

This month's Harpur Suite Bedford Comedy Club moves out into the Square tonight, after more live music through the day today. There is free live music again in the square tomorrow, and you can buy tickets for King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys in the evening. The music and theatre taking place are all part of Bedford's very own Fringe Festival Bedfringe, which is in full swing with a superb range of professional performing arts events at 18 venues in town over its three-week run to 3rd August.

If you haven't caught any of the shows so far this year, do have a look at the list of events on the website at www.bedfringe.com and see what's on offer.

A common theme across all of these events and attractions I have listed above is that so much of this is thanks to the hard work, talent and commitment of a number of tireless volunteers who are helping to make Bedford town centre a great place to come and enjoy. Footfall in Bedford town centre is up, and shop vacancy rates are down.

The commitment shown by all of those working to help make their town a really enjoyable place to be will help ensure that Bedford continues to buck the trend.
