As Energy Prices Rocket, it Pays to Know About our ‘Warmer Beds’ Scheme
Now seems a good time to try to raise awareness of Bedford Borough Council's excellent 'Warmer Beds' home insulation Scheme. For a start, it's Energy Saving Week this week. It's also finally beginning to get colder after the 'Indian Summer'' experienced over recent weeks. Another key reason why I want to make sure as many local residents as possible know about this scheme and just how it can help households is the widely-reported rocketing cost of energy, which is only going to make it harder and harder for people to stay warm in their homes this winter.
Through the scheme, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation is offered for free to over 70s or those on qualifying benefits, while for all other homeowners in the Borough cavity wall insulation is available from just £99 and loft insulation from £129, subject to a survey. This is of course a fantastic offer, and it seems to get even better when you consider the environmental and financial benefits of these forms of insulation for your home.
Insulating walls and lofts can save over a third of heat being lost and make a real impact in reducing energy bills. Cavity wall insulation is one of the most cost effective ways to save energy in the home and could save up to £135 on annual heating bills.
Leaving lofts un-insulated can result in 15% of heat escaping through roofs. Installing 270mm of loft insulation will keep the heat in as well as save up to £145 in annual heating bills.
