Battle for Play Areas Alcohol Ban to Continue

30 Jun 2008

The campaign to see alcohol banned from play areas will continue after the issue was deferred once again by Bedford Borough Council's Licensing Committee.

Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats are pressing for children's play areas to be designated "alcohol free zones." This would allow the police to require individuals to stop drinking alcohol immediately and to confiscate alcoholic drinks from drinkers in play areas. Where individuals do not comply with such requests they could be arrested and, upon conviction, fined up to a maximum of £500.
