Bedford Borough Council and partners win award for Team Modeshift Partnership of the Year
Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Luton councils with the Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner have won the award for Team Modeshift Partnership of the Year Award 2022.
This award recognises and celebrates the efforts made by individuals and groups to work in partnership with education providers, businesses and community groups, to promote and encourage active and sustainable travel.
The project held Dr Bike maintenance sessions, supported by local mobile cycle mechanics. Bikes belonging to 650 Bedford Borough secondary school pupils were inspected and serviced. This helps these bikes last longer and makes them safer for pupils to ride. Rechargeable bike lights were also fitted to each bike to improve their visibility on the way to and from school.
Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Highways and Transport said "This award recognises the commitment by Bedford Borough Council to promoting sustainable travel. We are investing in walking and cycling to promote better health and as part of our commitment to be zero carbon by 2030. This project has helped improve the safety and confidence of young cyclists by providing rechargeable lights to help them be seen by other road users as it gets darker."
Modeshift STARS is the Centre of Excellence for the delivery of Effective Travel Plans in Education, Business and Community settings. The scheme recognises schools, businesses and other organisations that have shown excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable and active travel.
