Bedford Borough Council appoint new Director of Children’s Services
Following a competitive selection process, Martin Purbrick has been offered the role of Bedford Borough Council's Director of Children's Services.
Martin has been the Interim Director of Children's Services, stepping up from Chief Officer of Children's Service, since 2020.
Prior to joining Bedford Borough in 2015, Martin has worked in Children's Services for almost 30 years so he brings a lot of experience to the role.
Martin said, "I am so proud to be appointed as the permanent Director of Children's Services for Bedford Borough. I have been part of the Borough for seven years this May and it has been an amazing journey from where we were in 2015 to where we are now. . . . Good in all areas according Ofsted. I am part of a huge and brilliant team with everyone across Children's Services including Early Years, Education, Early Help, SEND and Social Care. And we couldn't have achieved what we have done without the support of the wider Council. I am looking forward to tackling the new challenges we face and being part of our super-skilled, strengths-based and solution-focused team makes me feel very lucky. Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support in making Bedford the best place for children and their families!"
Mayor Dave Hodgson added, "I would like to congratulate Martin and welcome him into his new role. Key priorities for Bedford Borough include giving children a good start in life and keeping children and young people safe, and I am looking forward to continuing to work with him and his team."
