Bedford Borough Council consults on Housing Allocations Scheme
Bedford Borough Council are consulting on their updated Housing Allocations Scheme, which sets out how they will prioritise applicants in need of social, affordable housing in accordance with the Housing Act (1996).
The scheme helps the Council to regulate how they assess eligibility and qualification for residents to join the Housing Register. The Council works with housing associations such as bpha, and other social housing landlords, to administer the Housing Register and allocate available properties in the borough.
The most recent review of the allocations scheme ensures that it meets legal requirements, is in line with statutory guidance and reflects the local level of demand and supply of social housing.
The updated Housing Allocations Scheme has been designed to ensure that social housing is available to those who are eligible and need it, and that it can be accessed both as quick as is practicable and according to level of priority.

The consultation will run from 4 January 2021 to 12 February 2021, with responses being considered by the Council's Executive in March 2021. If approved, the scheme will be adopted for 1 April 2021.
