Bedford Borough Election 2002 - Results

3 May 2002

Yesterday's elections in Bedford Borough saw the Lib Dems move into second place in votes across the whole Borough. This makes the Lib Dems the key challengers for the Mayoral Election in October.

Lib Dem Leader Michael Headley said:

"I am very pleased that right across the borough large numbers of people voted for the Liberal Democrats. We had support in both rural and urban areas and from people of all backgrounds. We will continue to campaign on the council for better frontline services and planning for long term environmental and economic progress. We are now looking forward to the Mayoral contest, where it's a clear choice between the Tories and the Liberal Democrats."

The total percentage for Liberal Democrats was 26.9%, second to the Conservatives.
