Bedford Borough Liberal Democrat Group elects Cllr Henry Vann as leader
Bedford Borough's Liberal Democrat councillors have elected a leadership team to face the challenge of being in opposition, following the election of a conservative Mayor by a wafer thin majority of 145, just 0.2% of the vote.
Experienced councillors and members of former Mayor Dave Hodgson's cabinet, Henry Vann and Michael Headley were elected as Liberal Democrat Group Leader and Deputy Leader respectively at a meeting of re-elected and new Liberal Democrat Councillors on 10th May 2023.
Councillor Vann speaking after the meeting said:
"We congratulate the new Mayor and his cabinet but we are determined to stand up for local residents, to fight to protect local services from cuts and to avoid financial problems caused by a conservative manifesto of uncosted promises. We are ready to provide the constructive scrutiny that the public deserve after a staggeringly close election and an evenly balanced council on which each of the three main parties have a very similar number of councillors."
