Bedford Bus Station- Next Stages Underway

The next stages of the multi-million pound project to create a new Bedford bus station are now underway.

The regeneration project has already delivered a series of improvements in the bus station area, including the popular new surface car park, the refurbished and newly-clad multi storey, the brand new toilets and more. Now, a string of additional projects to regenerate the bus station area are underway, including construction of the bus station building itself.

Works to 14-28 Allhallows, the parade of shops which back on to the bus station building, has now started. The works include a replacement roof, new shop fronts and external improvements, which will help to integrate with the new bus station buildings.

In addition, the next construction phase of the new bus station building is now underway with the installation of the steel frame for the new building. Finally, improvements to the public areas in Greenhill and Thurlow Street are also underway. These include new paving, landscaping, street furniture and underground recycling bins.

Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "We have needed a regenerated bus station area for decades, and it's fantastic to the difference already made by the work under this project so far.

"We now have a string of further phases kicking off, including construction of the steel frame of the bus station building itself. It's great to see it taking shape, knowing that the brand new Bedford Bus Station will be a facility we can actually be proud of as a gateway to the town centre."
