Bedford Borough Council has joined forces with Bedford and District Citizens Advice Bureau in backing the third Big Energy Saving Week, which takes place from the 27th to 31st January 2014.

The aim of the national campaign is to help people cut their fuel bills by reducing energy usage, changing fuel tariff or supplier and making sure they receive all the financial support they are entitled to.

If you're worried about how much money you're spending to heat and light your home, or just want to spend less, why not come along to one of the following events to find out how you can reduce your energy bills?

An information event will be held on Wednesday 29th January, between 9am and 3pm in the Howard Centre, outside TK Maxx in Bedford town centre. Anyone who visits can speak to an advisor and get practical tips and advice on reducing their energy bills through measures such as installing insulation as well as switching energy suppliers.

Bedford and District Citizens Advice Bureau will also be holding a drop-in Energy Bills Workshop on Thursday 30th January from 9:30am -3:30pm in their offices at 7a St Pauls Square. Bring your bills along and they can help you switch supplier on the day or you can talk to them about any concerns or questions regarding your energy bills. Everyone is welcome.

Lib Dem Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for the Environment and Transport, said: "Bedford Borough Council offers tips and advice, as well as funding options for residents and groups to reduce their energy usage and their impact on the environment throughout the year.

"However, Big Energy Saving Week is an excellent opportunity for anyone to speak to us in the town centre and learn about simple steps you might be able to take to reduce your energy usage right now. Whether you are struggling to make ends meet, or just want to know if you can be even more energy efficient, why not come and speak to us?"

Lorraine Gunther, Chief Executive Officer, Bedford & District Citizens Advice Bureau, added: "Household budgets are under increasing pressure and people are looking for ways to cut back. Big Energy Saving Week will help people take simple steps to lower their energy bills and put money back into their pockets."

If you can't make it along to the stand or drop-in workshop in person, visit www.bedford.gov.uk/sustainability or www.bigenergysavingweek.org.uk to find out how you can reduce your energy bills and keep warmer, for less this winter.
