Earlier this year the BookTrust's sent a book to every reception age child who was starting school in Bedford Borough, and across the country, to encourage families to continue reading together. They also sent additional books throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

In 2019 alone the BookTrust were able to distribute 12,266 free books to children and families across Bedford Borough with a retail value of £87,478, and that increased in 2020.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said "I would like to thank the BookTrust for supporting reception age children and their families by providing high quality books and resources. It is important that every child should have the opportunity to build reading habits, we know the benefits of reading and shared reading are extensive and can have long lasting effects as children grow up."
