Bromham Road Bridge to Reopen Next Week

Bromham Road Bridge is to reopen to traffic on Tuesday June 9th, the Bedford Independent reports.

The road crossing over the railway has been closed by Network Rail since June 2019, to enable its project to replace the bridge to allow for the electrification of the midland mainline to Corby to take place. The government had originally promised full electrification of the line all the way to Sheffield, but cut back the scheme after the 2017 General Election.

This work will enable the line from London to Kettering and Corby via Bedford to be electrified as part of a £1.5billion project to improve the railway.

The opening of the road bridge on Tuesday June 9th will also see the pavements on both sides of the bridge open to pedestrians.

A small amount of remaining work may require further overnight road closures, and any closures will be announced through the usual channels.
