Bus Station Update- Works Continuing at Allhallows
Refurbishment of the car park started last year and has already seen brand new public toilets opened and improvements made to many of the parking levels. The next stage of works includes the installation of new customer lifts and improvements to the vehicle exit and entrance ramps on Brace Street.
As a result of this, Allhallows multi-storey car park will close temporarily on Monday 10th March until Easter. The works are scheduled to be completed by Thursday 17th April, in time for the busy Easter weekend.
Lib Dem Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: "The major improvements to Allhallows multi-storey car park are a vital part of the regeneration of Bedford bus station.
"A significant amount of work has already taken place, including the introduction of brand new public toilets and improvements to many of the parking levels.
"The next stage includes brand new public lifts as well as improvements to the exit and entrance ramps. Given the nature of these important works, the car park cannot remain open to the public.
"Bedford Bus Station has let our town centre down for too long and the completion of these works will bring us another significant step closer to a new bus station and a better gateway to Bedford town centre."
Season ticket holders have already been contacted and alternative arrangements made for their passes to work in an alternative car park of their choosing.
The nearest alternative multi-storey car park is Queens Street. Lurke Street and River Street car parks are also available. Greyfriars surface car park is immediately across the road but has a maximum stay of 2 hours.
